In Blackjack, the objective is to try to beat the dealer by getting closer to 21. He does this by placing his bet in the designated space in front of his table position. Face cards (kings, queens and jacks) count as 10, ace counts as one or 11 (as the player chooses) and all other cards are counted at their face value. Because you can play an Ace either way, a hand with an ace is called a soft hand. One to either Five or Seven players at a table. The object of the game is to obtain a hand of cards totaling up to 21 or as close to 21 as possible without going over. HIT or STAND - Hit means to draw another card (which the player signifies by scraping the table with his cards or a similar hand motion) Hit - If you are not pleased with the total of your first two cards, you can draw additional card(s) until you stand or bust. Players place their bets prior to the cards being dealt. Aces receive only one additional card. If you have been dealt two cards and think that a third card may give you a chance to beat the dealer's hand, you can double down. INSURANCE - If the dealer's up card is an ace, the player may take insurance, a bet not exceeding one-half his original bet. If the dealer's down card is a 10 or any face card, the player wins 2 to 1. Any other card means a win for the dealer. Jacks, Queens and Kings always have a value of 10. An Ace can count as 1 or 11 depending on what is most beneficial to your hand. When you think that the dealer has blackjack, it gives you a chance to guard your bet. If the dealer's first card is an ace and if you think that the dealer's hole card is of value 10, you can buy insurance against dealer blackjack. The insurance bet would be at the price of half your original bet. If you have purchased insurance and the dealer doesn't have blackjack, you'll lose your insurance bet. If you and the dealer both have blackjack, the game ends in a push.
