In Blackjack, the objective is to try to beat the dealer by getting closer to 21. He does this by placing his bet in the designated space in front of his table position. Face cards (kings, queens and jacks) count as 10, ace counts as one or 11 (as the player chooses) and all other cards are counted at their face value. Players and Personnel One dealer - Handles all of the cards and chip exchanges. If the total of your hand is over 21, you'll bust and lose your bet. If you have the same card total as the dealer, from 17 and up, you get your bet back in a push as neither have won. Blackjack beats a count of 21. " You are playing only against the dealer. If the player hits and busts (goes over 21), he immediately turns his cards over and his wager is lost. Players place their bets prior to the cards being dealt. SPLITTING PAIRS - If the first two cards a player is dealt are a pair, he may split them into two separate hands, bet the same amount on each and then play them separately. Double Down - Your bet is doubled and you draw only one more card. INSURANCE - If the dealer's up card is an ace, the player may take insurance, a bet not exceeding one-half his original bet. When you split two aces and one of your hands totals 21, this is not blackjack, it's 21. Insurance is not recommended and is considered a separate game/bet of its own. Player's add the value of their cards and either decide to "Stick" or "Stand" with their current cards or receive another card, called a "Hit" or "Draw," hopefully raising their total closer to 21 without going over. Once all players have decided to "Stand," the dealer reveals the face down card known as the "Hole" card. If the dealer has blackjack, the insurance pays 2:1, matching the amount of your original bet. If you have purchased insurance and the dealer doesn't have blackjack, you'll lose your insurance bet. If you and the dealer both have blackjack, the game ends in a push. Surrender is not offered at very many online casinos.
